On June 18, Handok signed an agreement with the Korea Environment Corporation to participate in the 2025 Smart Eco-Factory Project.

The Smart Eco-Factory Project, led by the Korea Environment Corporation, is a government initiative that supports the transition and construction of eco-friendly factories to reduce greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions while improving energy and resource efficiency.

Through this project, Handok will further strengthen its proactive environmental management. The company plans to build an eco-friendly smart factory to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The total project cost is KRW 2.14 billion, of which KRW 1 billion will be funded by the government, with Handok investing an additional KRW 1.14 billion.

Handok will install additional solar power facilities and replace refrigeration units, boilers, and pumps with high-efficiency, eco-friendly equipment to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The company will also implement an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system to realize a smart eco-factory and enable real-time data collection and analysis. In addition, Handok will upgrade dust collection systems to reduce air pollutants and install advanced wastewater treatment facilities to effectively remove water contaminants.

Meanwhile, Handok’s manufacturing plant is a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical production facility equipped with an international cGMP quality management system. As the first Korean pharmaceutical company to be certified as a Green Company, Handok has led the way in environmental management. Since the 1990s, the company has implemented Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and established an integrated HSE system, investing in resource and energy conservation, pollution reduction, and various eco-friendly initiatives.
