Handok Inc. Eumseong Factory Wins ‘Grand Prize’ at the 2017 Green Enterprise Awards

On June 22, Handok Inc.’s Chungbuk Eumseong factory won the ‘grand prize’ at the ‘2017 Green Enterprise Awards’ jointly held by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Technology Institute.

The Green Enterprise Award is a prize awarded to companies and admirable people who have proven to have a solid record of promoting responsible environmental management policies which expand the use of green technologies and practices. In recognition of their pursuit of such policies the Handok Inc. Eumseong factory received the “Grand Prize” this year, following their winning of the “Encouragement Prize” in 2015. The award was conferred after an extensive evaluation made it clear that the company made substantial efforts to prevent environmental pollution by adopting an environmental management system earlier than most and also for carrying out environmental policies throughout all its divisions.

As a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical production facility equipped with a world-class cGMP quality management system the Handok Inc. Eumseong factory has been a leader in environmental management. In recognition of these efforts, Handok Inc. was first to be appointed as a “green company” (formerly “environment friendly company”) in 2000 in the domestic pharmaceutical industry and kept the title until 2016 with six consecutive appointments.

.

Since the 1990s, the Handok Inc. Eumseong factory established a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policy in order to build its own HSE integral system and has been carrying out various environmental activities, such as practices to conserve energy and reduce pollutants. Recently, Handok Inc. invested 1.2 billion won to build a new pharmaceutical plaster production plant and install a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO), which completely incinerates volatile organic compounds generated during production to prevent air pollutant emission. In addition, the company has begun attaching to its products specialized outserts, which consist of instructions attached directly to the bottles to reduce packaging material waste.
