Eumseong manufacturing plant receives highest honor in 2017 Green Company
Awards

Handok (CEO Youngjin Kim) received the
Green Company Award during the 2017 Green Company Awards ceremony hosted by the
Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Industry and Technology Institute.

The Green Company Award was created to award
eco-friendly businesses and contributors that have outstanding environmental
policies to invigorate green businesses and expand environmental management.  

The Green Company Award is given to
eco-friendly businesses which have contributed considerably to the environment,
by means such as reducing effluent waste material and conserving energy and
resources. Aside from adopting environmental management systems early on to
prevent pollution, Handok’s Eumseong plant received high marks for its
environment friendly operations in all criteria and won the year’s Green
Company Award, a step up from 2015’s recognition award.

Handok’s Eumseong plant is leading the
industry in eco-friendly operations through cutting edge technologies for
medicine production that meet the global cGMP quality management system
standards. Through these efforts, the company became the first domestic company
to be recognized as a green company (formerly eco-friendly company) in 2000. In
2016, the plant was recognized as a green company for 6 consecutive terms, thus
maintaining its green company status for 19 years

The Handok Eumseong Plant introduced its
HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) policy in 1990 and established its own
comprehensive HSE system, also pursuing a variety of activities in
environmental improvement such as energy and resources conservation and
reduction of waste material. Recently, the plant invested KRW 1.2 billion into
its new plaster production company to install a RTO (Regenerative Thermal
Oxidizer) which reduces air pollutant emissions produced during production by
incinerating flammable organic compounds created during the manufacturing
process. Furthermore, the plant started using outserts to display instructions
on the bottle to reduce packaging waste.

Meanwhile, the Handok Eumseong plant a
state of the art medicine production facility that meets global standards
stretched over 90,840
. The plant is equipped with large scale manufacturing
facilities that can produce/package internal solid dosages, external liquid
dosages, and plaster. Additionally, the plant completed construction of a
plaster production plant with an area of
7,632
that has the capacity to manufacture up to 390 million patches a year and
plans to manufacture Ketotop, new line up products developed by Handok, and a
variety of new patch products.
